JOHN ROBERTS WAS A STEEL-DRIVIN’ MAN: John Roberts was a steel-drivin’ man—and George Bush wanted the public to know it. “When Mr. Bush presented Judge Roberts...on Tuesday night, he made special mention of the judge's having worked summers in steel mills, an apparent effort to give him some working-class cachet,” Neil Lewis wrote in the New York Times (see THE DAILY HOWLER, 7/20/05). Result? In a well-reasoned column in today’s Post, E. J. Dionne handed Roberts his props:

What would have happened had the roles been reversed—if the press had started a War Against Bush in 3/99, a war which helped put Gore in the White House? We suspect you know what would have happened. In fact, as we have often noted, Joe Scarborough explained what would have happened when he played Hardball in November 02. Does anyone doubt a single word of what the gentleman told us?

Confused about the last paragraph.

I may have snipped it up too much, the gist of the article is how different our MSM had treated Al as opposed to the Republicans. Also all the bad stuff that has happened since Bush came to power is largely due to the media and their war against Gore. In other words if the American Journalism had done it's job in 2000 with some shred of ethics, morals, decency or fair play. We would not be involved in a trumped up war based on lies, the White House would not have outed one of our own CIA agents bordering on treason, propaganda sluts such as Gannon/Guckert would not have been given the time of day, Roe vs Wade would not be in danger of being overturned by conservative activist judges, the environment would not be so shamelessly raped by oil, mining and timber corporations and the leader of the free world would have enough intelligence to know that global warming is a real and growing danger and on top of that our President would have been awake when all the terrorist warnings came out in the spring/summer of 2001 possibly avoiding 9/11.
