Title: Compromise or stay true to our values?

On Kos, refering to Dean's recent appearance in the West, lots of members think we should give up on gun control in order to expand our support. This is a big sacrifice I believe. I for one am sickened by gun nuts, and in a post-Columbine nation, we need to do all we can to prevent gun violence.

Here's part of an email I received from an old friend last week.

Sometimes I wish we had not left New York. I realise now that we didn't
really know what we were getting into. New York is very different from
Michigan. Battle Creek has something to offer, it's relatively safe and
unhurried. That was, until they changed the gun laws to allow concealed
weapons. Barely a night goes by now without the sound of gunfire, sometimes
too close for comfort.

What do you guys say? I sure am not willing to give up our core values to win votes.

If one gives up on their core values just for votes then what are their values worth? I think people should not be allowed to carry concealed weapons.
