I was watching CNN this morning, when they did a short bit on a CNN/Gallup poll on what Americans fear most. This graphic spells out what they found.

Just a couple of observations about this poll:

First of all, the Top 5 Fears are listed in reverse order, with Number 5 showing at the top, where Number 1 should be. Why would CNN display a completely counter-intuitive list like this?

To exploit your fear. Even though Terrorism only placed at number 5 on the poll, CNN still shows Terrorism at the top of the list. The casual viewer would look at this graphic and get the impression that Terrorism is at the top of the list, when in actuality it's only Number 5 on the list. It's a dishonest representation of the poll results - but the cynical manipulation of the news only begins there.

I don't know if I agree with the amount of cynacism Stranger approaches this with, but the fact that the list is backwards is quite indeed very curious.

This poll is using the "countdown" format I suppose but I agree it gives the impression that terrorism is number one which it isn't. What is interesting is number 2, Crystal Meth??? I don't get that one. Why would that make people afraid?

I'm terrible at math, but those numbers don't seem to add up.

I know all those things listed in the 'Top 5' are of concern, but what about RIGGING of future presidential elections???? That is definitely something I fear.

My number one fear has been for George Orwell's vision of the future to come true, and a fascist type megalomanic to come to power in our good old U.S. of A. I have had problems sleeping at night believing that the supposed gatekeepers of the truth (see media) would sell their souls and betray the American People to the "super citizen corporations" by harping on fear, scandal, rumor, innuendo and downright lies at the expense of quality information and "real news". I feel much comforted now by CNN's poll that have proved that my fears are baseless. <_< :bad:

P.S. I wonder if child molestation has anything to do with wall to wall Michael Jackson coverage?
