Should have been PRESIDENT AL GORE. And hopefully it still will be. :good:

How about those numbers?
Garden Stater - February 21, 2005 04:20 AM (GMT)
Now that second set I like!
It's one thing to be a right-winger or Republican, but what in the world would possess someone to, when asked who the greatest president is, utter the words "George W. Bush"?
Ick!

Ugh. I can't believe Reagan comes in as #1. He was, without a doubt, one of our WORST presidents. All style, little substance, although I never saw what people liked so much in his style, either. I couldn't stand to watch him talk with that smug smile and that thing he used to do with his head. I disliked him second only to Dubya. I didn't even hate Nixon as much, and I hated him plenty!

Since I wasn't around when he was President, I wouldn't really know, but I do know that government was at its second largest in our nation's history under his presidency, second only to Shrub.

I must have missed that last night. It's much better.
Who with half a brain would say GWB??? Ick is right, even a gun-toting, racist thug should have more sense than that. :bad:

This is why people should not take a poll like this.
Clinton should not be in the top 15 and IMHO neither should Reagan (and in 200 years, he won't be).Matter of fact, I would put Nixon higher up for the repubs
and ten others for the dems ...where is Woodrow Wilson? Harry Truman?
earthmother - February 22, 2005 06:15 PM (GMT)
Ha. Ask the average American what they know of Harry Truman or Woodrow Wilson. The people on this list are only here because that's either how long people's memories stretch back or because they learned about these people in social studies in school. I am fairly certain that the people who took this poll can't tell you WHY they said these were the best presidents in our history. Can they actually tell you anything JFK did besides being assassinated? Can they tell you why they liked Reagan, or even Clinton, so much? No way. You bet your patooti that Nixon did more of a substantive nature than Reagan did, leaving aside Watergate and escalating the war in Vietnam. But people (or rather the sheeple, because that's who we're talking about in a poll like this) will remember Reagan's "Great Communicator" act before they'll remember Nixon opening the door to China. Polls like this are useless beyond what they show of people's perceptions, because when you get right down to it, I'll bet only a tiny percentage of people polled have any idea what any of these presidents actually did.

Not only did Reagan put us into great debt, but he was an A-Hole as well. It's aggrivating when people give him all the credit for ending communism, when communism was ending itself.
Garden Stater - February 23, 2005 01:27 AM (GMT)
I don't know much about Reagan except that he did put us in a lot of debt, he did spend a lot, Iran-Contra happened during his Presidency, he's the one we have to thanks for Bush 41 (and I guess thus Bush 43).
That's all balanced with Fox News's propaganda feed that introduced me to the guy during the summer.
They got to me first before anyone else. :)

Thank you for saying that. That's one of my main gripes about Reagan and people who think he was so great. They think he brought down communism when it had started to fall without any help from him. All huff and bluff, Reagan was. I despised him.
