Title: My meeting with Al Gore today!
GSC Admin - November 24, 2004 07:03 PM (GMT)
Hey! I had a great time this morning. The lecture he gave was only to about 20 people and it was broadcast to France (that is why it had such an early start). He talked about Sustainable Growth As An Alternative To Terrorism. He went in depth on the environment and our relationship with other countries and what can be done to help improve our standing with other nations and prevent further attacks. It was really awesome.
After the lecture was over I went up and talked to him. I introduced my self and before I could even get done he said he remembered me. I then asked him to sign a photo of him and I where I presented him with a plaque back in April and he wrote the following: "To Chris, Best Wishes & Good Luck!" Al Gore. I also told him again my intentions to be in public service some day and how much I looked up to him. He was really flattered. I also told him that all of us were still out there supporting him on the Al Gore Support Center and he relpied, "That means the world to me!" That really made me happy to realize how much he appreciates our work for him. It was another really great time with him. He always is so interested in my future and gracious for everything. I hurt everyday that he is not the President.
Thanks Al! :D

PS: Here is the photo that he signed for me! I took a digital photo of it for you guys to see. It gives me such energy and inspiration to know he cares!

Good job Chris. I think you handled it just right.
GSC Admin - November 24, 2004 08:08 PM (GMT)
I told you I would! ;) It's always better to get advice beforehand though from my friends!
ALGOREismylife - November 24, 2004 10:08 PM (GMT)
Chris, you're not the only one who hurts everyday. The hurt of being robbed of my president is hell. AL GORE is still the president to me, but atleast you got to see him and that's great. I hope he is in good health.
Kerstin - November 24, 2004 11:47 PM (GMT)
Good to know you had a great time. Thanks for reporting here and letting us all know!
"That means the world to me..." - couldn't be a better appreciation of your and your pal's work from this site. Go on! :good:

I just can't help wondering what he thinks when we say we're still out there supporting him. I mean, does he think, "Gee, a lot of people still really want me to run for president," or does he think, "It's really flattering, but I hope they understand that I'll never be running for president again." As with last time around, it would just be nice to have some sort of sign from him that he might still be interested. Last time, we hung our hopes on the fact that he never told us to stop what we were doing. Will we go along again until 2008 on the strength of him never having told us to stop? Please, Al, if you ever check in on this board, I wish you could give your faithful and loyal supporters something more tangible to go on. But no matter what, we will always be there for you.
And Chris, you are the envy of every person on this board.

I second everything Earthmother just said. It will wonderful if we can get indicators early enough to ensure our efforts do not end in vain. Though I can't speak for others, I am sure everyone will appreciate if Chris Jackson can obtain such information and dissaminate amongst us. If Al Gore is determined to pursue career in investment banking with David Blood, then I would channel my energy in alternative avenues to bring peace, prosperity, and justice. Therefore, sorry Mr. Chris Jackson, but I will be putting some extra burdon on your shoulders and ask you to enlighten us. Expectations are high on you. Also, it is imperative to let people like Donna Brazil, Joe Trippi, and Dr.Dean know about our efforts and history.
GSC Admin - November 25, 2004 04:23 AM (GMT)
He also said today that we must start working on the next election. I didn't read anything into it like he wanted to run or anything, but he thinks we should start working.

Earthmother, do you have any idea what the pro Bush media would do to Al Gore for the next 4 years if he gave any indication at this much too early date that he was running in 2008? You don't seem to understand at all. Nice of you to post such a negative view of things too.
earthmother - November 26, 2004 05:46 PM (GMT)
Well, Gore2008, you've done it again, and I'm going to respond with a very unprofessional and unmoderatorly . . . well, no I can't bring myself to do it, because I'd be stooping to your level then. But there are two words I'm thinking of, one of which begins with "f." Do you get it? It can't be that every time I or anyone else checks in on this board (or at AGDems), we have to be subjected to your irrational berating: Sorry, so-and-so, but you obviously don't understand such-and-such. Give it up, already, Gore2008, because we've had about enough of it. :bad:
If you'd been reading my posts instead of living in your own fantasy world, you'd have read repeatedly where I've said that no candidate would be stupid enough to announce his candidacy or begin campaigning now. Campaigns thrive on momentum, as I've said over and over again, and anyone who would start campaigning now would be dead in the water before the real race ever began. BUT, having said that, many of the candidates are making noises here and there about what their intentions are or aren't. That's normal. Keep the people guessing, but let them know that you're not closing the door on anything. Besides, what I said was that I wish he COULD give us some sort of sign just so we wouldn't make the same mistakes as last time. It would be better for us, but not necessarily better for him--not yet, anyway. It's just that I don't want to waste several years of time and energy again just because the man didn't tell us to stop doing what we were doing, thinking that that must mean that he approved of what we were doing. We were wrong last time, and I don't want to do that again. Many of us put huge amounts of personal time, money, and energy into the write-in effort. Singhtjunior, Mac Hathaway, Erin, and others posting here know very well what I'm talking about. It was well worth the effort, as long as there was any possibility that Gore would get in the race. But if there's no chance at all of that happening, then it would be good to know that before we get so deep in the whole thing again.
I'm encouraged that he said what he said to Chris about getting to work on the next election, but I agree with Chris that we can't allow ourselves to read anything into that (although it sure is tempting!). I think we who support Gore need to figure out our strategy for letting Gore know how we feel, and then we need to let those who matter in the Dem. Party know how we feel about Gore running in '08. But we need to organize our efforts. Thus far, we're just sort of drifting along. We need someone to take charge. Any takers?
Also, singhtjunior: It'd be really nice if Chris had that kind of "in" with Gore, but I don't think Gore will be spilling any beans to Chris or anyone else about this, not until he's ready to announce publicly, anyway. In the meantime, I do think we should be a little encouraged that he said what he said about getting started on the next election. It might just have been sort of general political advice, in other words, that the Democrats need to start now if we're going to beat the Repugs in '08, but it is early for groups like us, and I think it could be read as a sort of cryptic way of saying, "If you want me, you'd better start making a lot of noise so people will hear it." At least that's what I'd like to think!
GSC Admin - November 26, 2004 05:56 PM (GMT)
You are right. Al Gore is a friend of mine, however, I am sure he wouldn't tell anyone about his intentions. If memory serves correctly in 2000 he didn't even tell Tipper until the last minute of his decesion.
However, I just feel honored that he knows about us and he says it means the world to him that we do all of this for him.
Lets do our job and let the chips fall where they may.
earthmother - November 26, 2004 05:59 PM (GMT)
Absolutely, Chris. I do think it's significant that it "means the world to him" that we do what we do. It's just a little hard to accept him allowing us to continue doing this and putting so much into it if he knows he has no intentions of ever running again. Don't you think? I mean, we're not just here to be a fan club, and I hope he knows that. :P

| I'm really tired of your attacks against me for defending Al Gore and I don't like your use of fowl language. |
First of all, Gore2008, it's "foul" language, not "fowl" language [cluck cluck], and second of all, if anyone should be sick of anything, it is we who are sick of you. So, I will use my moderator powers to delete your needlessly offensive last post and any further ones you choose to post that attack me for being stupid, ill-informed, or otherwise wrong. Ciao, Gore2008.
earthmother - November 28, 2004 05:24 PM (GMT)
Well, I came here because I got a notification that Gore2008 had posted a reply, but I see there's nothing here, which can only mean that someone else has deleted her last post. Just for the record, it wasn't me this time.
Quit attacking people, Gore2008, and you'll be allowed to post here. Otherwise, we'll continue deleting your posts, or ban you altogether, which we've done before. Your warning level is at 100%. Better tread lightly.

That would be me. I found her reply highly offensive to you and deleted it.

Chris,
Sounds like you had another great experience meeting the real President again. I'm not surprized he remembered you. You are a remarkable and memorable person.
