Title: Thank you Gov. Rick Perry! NOT!

Texan for Gore - March 13, 2009 04:18 PM (GMT)
Perry rejects money that would expand unemployment benefits. <_< Well, I guess it's okay to bailout banks that were careless, but not people who really need it during time of unemployment. Not that I like the idea of us spending all this stimulus money, but if we're going to help out banks, we should also be helping the people who have lost their jobs as a result of the poor economy. Help Main Street as Obama has proposed doing.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Perry tries to run for President next time around!

Texas rejects stimulus unemployment money
Gov. Rick Perry says taking the money would have hurt employers

updated 7:21 p.m. CT, Thurs., March. 12, 2009
HOUSTON - Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Thursday rejected $555 million in federal stimulus money that would expand state unemployment benefits, saying the money would have required the state to keep funding the expanded benefits after the stimulus money ran out.

Perry, an outspoken critic of President Barack Obama's $787 billion stimulus bill, did accept most of the roughly $17 billion slated for Texas in the plan.

But he said the requirements attached to the federal stimulus money would require a change in the state's definition of unemployment, expanding coverage to more people and placing more of the state's tax burden on employers.

"During these tough times, Texas employers are working harder than ever to move products to market, make payroll and create jobs," Perry said at a news conference. "The last thing they need is government burdening them with higher taxes and expanded obligations."

Perry said such an expansion would counteract the package's objective of job creation by leading companies to limit hiring and raise prices.

To receive the full amount of stimulus money available, lawmakers would need to adjust the time period used to determine whether people are eligible for benefits.

Texas also is being asked to expand eligibility to include thousands of low-wage workers. Lawmakers have said the change would help part-time employees like single mothers, college students and senior citizens.

Perry's decision comes despite warnings from Texas Workforce Commission Chairman Tom Pauken that the state's unemployment compensation trust fund could be operating at a deficit by October. Pauken told lawmakers recently that insolvency might not be not far behind.

I didn't say I was hoping for it. I can just see it coming - that is, if Jebby doesn't run. <_< And believe me, Perry would be 10x worse than Bush because he's no dumbass. He's just pure evil. :spikey:

That's just it. There's been plenty of people displaced by the hurricanes and Perry doesn't want to extend unemployment benefits???

IMO, he is more concerned about his political future. I can just see him arguing in a couple of years from now that he rejected Obama's stimulus money because he was against it, when Bush is the one who left us with this disaster. <_<

We have tried to vote that worm out of office, but Bush and the Repugs have such a stronghold on this state. <_< We were really trying to get Carole Strayhorn in here last time, but she ran as an independent and I think that hurt her as well.

ETA: It is really sickening to see Wonder Woman's evil twin (aka Palin) advertised at the bottom of this page. Can't they find a repuke website to advertise on? :?:

:o OMG - I keep forgetting others are still seeing ads on message boards! I haven't seen any in a couple months since I added a plug-in for Firefox called adblock plus--greatest invention known to man....no ads on these boards anymore. Soooo nice not to have to see computerized jiggling belly fat or freak-show wackjobs like coultergeist and Witch Palin. There's one for Internet Explorer too but I can't remember the name of it.

Man, I wish I had that, rather than having this grotesque picture of Witch Palin staring at me right now. She's got to be kidding right? Who in their right mind would vote for this goon as President?

I'm going to check that out directly. Those annoying ads at the top and bottom of the page have been annoying me for a long time now. Thanks for the tip!

Well, that seemed to help at the top of the page anyway. But at the bottom of the page I'm seeing an ad for a PAC to support Sarah Palin.

Who the hell selects these ads? Or are right-wing ads all over the web like an infestation :!:

I'm going to try Filter Set G in addition to the Adblocker Firefox extension

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1136

Now we're getting somewhere ;)

You're welcome, but I'm surprised you still saw any ads after you got the add-on. It took all of 2 minutes to download for me and I haven't seen any ads since.

WE select the ads, so to speak, with what we talk about on these boards.* If we mention Witch Palin's name then the board gets an ad about her within minutes. They're targeted ads based on words in the posts, picked up by bots.
For example, on my Depp board, when we were talking about him wearing glasses when he could easily afford lasix surgery (or whatever it's called), within minutes there were ads galore all over the board pages about the eye surgery and for eyeglasses. In fact, if that hadn't happened I might still not have the adblocker because people started complaining about the fact that the minute we start talking about a certain subject, ads for it pop up all over the pages. One of the mods then told us about the adblockers and the rest is history...
The other great advantage is that the pages don't take any time at all to load when you're making your way thru the forum (unless there's lots of posted pics on them)--it's those stupid ads that slow down the loading of the pages.

*LOL-we should come up with code words for all the repukes that we don't want to see ads for on this board, to fool the bots! 'Course that wouldn't be necessary if everybody can get the adblockers downloaded to their computers.

I haven't heard about this Perry prick, but he sounds like a complete idiot :bad:

I can see a piece of crap like this trying to be President, it's a scary thought but there are people out there who believe this kind of crap.

Wayne in WA State - March 16, 2009 07:02 PM (GMT)
You have to wonder is the GOP really that dumb to turn down this money. The answer appears to be yes. Also, the Blue states have been putting in a lot more federal dollars for years than they get out while the Red states have been sucking out more than they ever put in. Maybe they could give that up too. :?:
